A new controversy in the Mexican refinery of Dos Bocas: more than a thousand employees go on strike

In search of salary improvements and to report abuse, labor exploitation, lack of protective equipment and transport of personnel, more of thousand employees of the Ica Fluor company in the Dos Bocas refinery, in Tabasco, they started a strike of labors.

“They don’t give us a fair salary and they have us working long hours. We lack uniforms and meals. That is the disagreement that we have here, ”an employee who did not identify himself at the main access of the refinery told the media.

“We demand a decent salary and that our eight hours of work be respected; we fight fair hours of food because we are not enough due to overstaffing and lack of dining rooms ”, added another employee when leaving the facilities.

The employees denounced that they are forced to work 10 and a half hours a day for lower payment to that offered by other companies.

The workers indicated that they will not resume their work as long as the demands are not met.

Building the Dos Bocas refinery in Paraíso, Tabasco, registers an overall progress of 33%, and the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has committed to completing this work in July 2022.

The Dos Bocas refinery is one of the main works of the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in addition to the rehabilitation of the six already existing.

‘Transient’

Meanwhile, the Mexican president expressed his confidence that this movement will be “transient”, and denied the issue that the pay is bad.

“It is a momentary, transitory stop, I hope; because they are disputing the ownership of the contract, it is a matter between unions“He explained at his morning press conference at the National Palace.

“It is not that the workers are being paid badly, they have all the benefits, the problem is that the unions are fighting to have control,” replied López Obrador.

He said that “an agreement will be sought” and asked the union leaders “to behave well.”
