Al Gharafa wins the first game of QNB Stars League
On the opening day of the 2021-2022 QNB Stars League, Al Gharafa defeated Al Shamal by a score of 2-0. It was Yohan Boli’s double that sealed a 10-man victory in the second match. 2-2 tie between Al Rayyan and Umm Salal.
After a defensive breakdown in the eighth minute, Yassin Bakhit scored to give Umm Salal the lead. As soon as Franck Kom was sent off, Brazilian striker Isael took advantage of the offside trap to double Umm Salal’s lead six minutes later.
An outside the box free-kick from Boli gave him his first goal. He then scored his second goal 11 minutes later, this time from a loose ball in the area in front of the goal. Ahmed al-Janehi opened the score for Al Gharafa in the 20th minute. The Cheetahs doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute when Moyad Hassan hit the back of the net.
Al Gharafa dictated the tempo of the contest from the start. After a couple of wasted chances, Sofiane Hanni found al-Janehi with a low flick in the 20th minute. It didn’t take long for Al-Janehi to put the ball in the back of the goal from close range. It took Al Gharafa until the 32nd minute for Hassan to increase the lead.
They improved in the second half. Yousef Haasan saved a powerful shot from Jeison Escobar just after the hour mark. However, the assistant referee judged it offside ten minutes later when Al Shamal skipper Faisal scored from within the penalty area. Qatar SC and Al Ahli drew 0-0 at Al Khor Stadium.
