The attack by some 70 armed men against the communities of Guerrero Grande, Mier and Terán, in the San Esteban Atatlahuca municipality, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, left around five dead.
Displaced families from the Ndonoyoyuji community were sheltering in this area.
The Oaxaca Public Security Secretariat spoke out about the incident and stated that they carried out coordination activities for “the entry of the forces of order to the conflict zone in San Esteban Atatlahuca”.
In a statement they explained that “derived from the events that occurred with violence on October 21 in the community of Ndonoyoyuji and on October 23 in the Mier y Terán and Guerrero Grande agencies, belonging to the San Esteban Atatlahuca municipality, the State and Federal government , installed the security table to coordinate the entry of the elements of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) and the National Guard to implement a security operation in the conflict zone with the aim of safeguarding the integrity of the inhabitants”.
The entity condemned the events that occurred in the community and requested that the corresponding investigations be carried out “to punish those responsible.”
Around 30 people, including women and children, were refugees in a church in the community of Mier y Terán.
