Battlefield 2042: An important feature is completely missing at the launch

As of today, players with early access can already access the new (and old) battlefields of Battlefield 2042. Many of you will have probably already noticed: An important communication feature is missing.

A core element that runs through the entire Battlefield series are the squads. This is how you act in Battlefield 2042 in teams of four, regardless of whether in the modes “All-Out Warfare”, “Hazard Zone” and parts of “Portal”. In order for squads to work together effectively, good communication is important. This works in Battlefield 2042 via pings, a selection of commands and statements about the “Commo Rose” and of course the Voice chat. The latter is still missing in Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield 2042: To launch without voice chat

There is no ingame voice chat for the launch of Battlefield 2042. Of course there are tools like Discord or TeamSpeak on the PC and integrated voice chat systems can also be found on the consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Those who play a lot with friends usually use the external options. If you are traveling solo more often, are however, the communication options are now significantly restricted.

In the “All-Out Warfare” variants, Conquest and Breakthrough, there is no voice chat not quite as dramatic and the available options are sufficient to play with a squad of strangers. In these modes, a lost firefight only means getting back into the game, but that looks completely different in “Hazard Zone”.

“Hazard Zone” lives from the squad gameplay

In the “Hazard Zone”, however, a lost firefight can often mean the end of the round. As a result, a large part of the earned credits is lost and also the equipment purchased for the round is lost. In the case of two squads with the same playing skills the team with the better communication is more likely to win. Voice chat is essential for a mode in which the entire gameplay and individual squads rotate. The rudimentary ping system is just not precise enough, and in the context of the time pressure of the mode and the fact that everyone is your enemy, a fast and effective communication tool is needed.

Why such a basic multiplayer feature is missing in Battlefield 2042 is unknown. However, DICE has already announced that it will deliver the voice chat later. As of today (November 12), Battlefield 2042 is playable in Early Access. The โ€œrealโ€ launch will take place on November 19th.
