Authorities seize a car maintenance centre at Umm Salal

Doha: Ministry of Commerce and Industry inspectors in Umm Salal seized a car servicing centre for illegally labelling used oil as new.

During an inspection effort to ensure compliance with Consumer Protection Law No. (8) of 2008, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry discovered the violation at the car maintenance service.

According to the Ministry’s statement, it would not accept any failure to comply with the requirements of the law on consumer protection and its executive bylaws.

In addition, the Ministry is seeking to increase the frequency and scope of its inspections in an effort to curtail illegal activities. Those who violate laws or Ministerial decisions will be reported to the appropriate authorities, who will take appropriate action.

Refilling used oil in containers labelled as new oil violates Article No. (6) of the Consumer Protection Law, No. (8) of 2008, which states: β€œNo defective or adulterated commodity shall be sold, displayed, presented, promoted, or advertised. The commodity shall be deemed to be adulterated or defective where it does not conform to the prescribed standard specifications, is unfit for use, or has expired.”
Aiming to defend consumer rights, monitor markets and commercial operations throughout the country, control pricing, and detect abuses and goods that are falsified or counterfeit or do not meet standard requirements, the Ministry launched the inspection campaign.
