CDC Approves Booster Dose of Moderna and J&J Covid-19 Vaccines

Millions of people in the United States can sign up for reinforcements from the Covid-19 vaccines by Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, beginning Friday, after the nation’s top public health official endorsed the recommendations of expert advisers that booster doses are safe and effective in strengthening protection against coronavirus.
The backing of the Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), means that millions of Americans eligible by age or risk of serious illness, can choose any of the three boosters of Covid-19 vaccines now licensed in the United States, regardless of its original vaccine.
“The evidence shows that all three COVID-19 vaccines authorized in the United States are safe, as evidenced by the more than 400 million doses of vaccines already administered, ”Dr. Walensky said in a statement Thursday night, several hours after receiving unanimous recommendations from the expert panel. , called the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
“And they are all very effective in reducing the risk of serious illness, hospitalization and death, even in the midst of the wide circulation delta variant,” Walensky reiterated.
Walesky’s decision, preceded by FDA federal regulators’ recommendation issued Wednesday, largely fulfills the Biden Administration’s commitment to make boosters of the three vaccines available to Americans, albeit one month later than promised and for a smaller group than initially envisioned.
The CDC plans to publish a guide early next week with more detailed information on who might benefit from choosing a booster. Covid-19 vaccine on another, as requested by the panel.
Advisers to the CDC and other federal agency officials are still trying to decide whether to recommend that some people adhere to when choosing the booster from the same original vaccine, if possible.
