Microsoft Surface Pro 8 Tablet Review
Surface Pro 8 from a company Microsoft is getting a big upgrade, although it’s not much different from the previous model in terms of design. But the company’s upgrades in hardware and specs make it a standout option.
Without a doubt, Microsoft’s line of two-in-one Surface Pro laptops is the most popular of all the Surface PCs.
But the company hasn’t given the Surface Pro a major makeover since 2015 with the release of the Surface Pro 4. It got Windows Hello, a 12.3-inch PixelSense display, an improved stylus, and more.
The Surface Pro 7+ is impressive though. But it was aimed at institutions, not consumers. And with the new Surface Pro 8 update It has become a suitable choice for anyone looking for a touch screen computer running Windows 11.
Comprehensive Surface Pro 8 review
Design and screen
The most notable update that Microsoft introduced in the Surface Pro 8 is the display. It measures 13 inches and has a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels, and it has clearly smaller side edges.
The screen also supports a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The extra tires are expected to make a big difference in everyday use.
The device supports Adaptive Color, which automatically adjusts screen brightness based on its surroundings. But Microsoft did not use dynamic refresh rate, which allows the monitor to change the refresh rate automatically.
In terms of exterior design, the Surface Pro 8 comes with rounded corners and an anodized aluminum body. On the right side, there are two Type-C ports, both of which support Thunderbolt 4.
And with Thunderbolt 4, users can now connect Surface Pro 8 to the eGPU to provide more graphics power for gaming or video editing, while also maintaining the benefits of the magnetic Surface Connect port.
The device still supports the Surface Connect port for fast charging. On the left side there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a speaker that supports surround sound technology.
Cameras on Surface Pro 8
Above the screen is a 5-megapixel webcam. In addition, there are two pairs of microphone and infrared sensors with support for Windows Hello login authentication.
There is a 10MP camera on the back that allows you to shoot 4K video. The front camera also works well in low light conditions.
keyboard and pen
The Surface Pro Signature Keyboard Cover, sold separately, is made of carbon fiber. And it looks much more powerful than the previous models.
The keyboard housing also features a slot at the top to charge the redesigned Surface Slim Pen 2, which uses wireless charging.
The pen comes with a built-in haptic motor that makes you feel like you’re writing on paper while you’re drawing or taking notes.
However, only a small group of apps currently support this haptic feedback. So you should wait for more apps that support it to be released.
Specifications and price
The Surface Pro 8 comes with two 11th generation processor options, either Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7, with RAM starting from 8GB and up to 32GB.
It is also available in four models of storage capacity, starting from 128 and up to 1 TB of SSD type. Price starts from 1099 dollars For an Intel Core i5 model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Battery life and operating system
According to Microsoft, the battery life in the computer can last up to 16 hours on a single charge. It can also be charged from 0 to 80 percent in an hour.
In addition, the device also uses a fan-based active cooling system, along with a steam chamber with three heat pipes and three graphite heat spreaders.
The device comes with Windows 11 pre-installed. In addition there are free utility applications such as video editor Clipchamp which works via the browser.
Is Surface Pro 8 suitable for everyone
There is no 5G option for the Surface Pro 8. But there is a 4G LTE option. However, these models are not expected to be launched until later in 2021. They may be intended for commercial markets.
Tablets have a lot of users. But the Surface Pro 8 in particular seems more suitable for content makers.
It is also suitable for bloggers, designers, and people who want a lightweight and compact Windows tablet with powerful specifications.
And while all consumer versions of the Surface Pro 8 ship with Windows 11, business purchases have a choice of Windows 10 or Windows 11.
