Despite the two losses, Marvin Vettori still believes that he is a better fighter than Adesanya: “He was just smarter”

Marvin vettori returns to the Octagon this Saturday to face Paulo Costa in a stellar commitment that ensures the winner his permanence in the first places of the Middleweight classification.
Vettori arrives at UFC Fight Night Las Vegas 41 having lost his streak of five straight wins to the reigning division champion, Israel Adesanya. And although for the Italian that defeat put him 0-2 against the ‘Last Stylebender’, he is convinced that he is the best fighter.
“It was not better, it was more cunning,” commented the product of Kings MMA during an interview with ESPN. Which, in a sense, is part of being better. He made a very clever fight. Mentally he was more relaxed. I don’t feel like he was in control, but he gave the crowd that feeling, and by doing a lot of mβ¦. He was able to involve them (in the fight) a lot. I don’t think it was better because he had a lot of weapons that he didn’t use against me, and most of the time he was disconnected from any kind of fight. But he did do a pretty crafty one. “
Adesanya met Vettori again three years after their first meeting. And although the result of that time, a divided decision, gave room for speculation, the Nigerian left no doubts in the UFC 263, PPV in which he successfully carried out his third starting defense by clearly beating the Trento-born fighter on the judges’ scorecards.
