Everything we know about Google’s foldable phone

Google officially revealed the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones, which was done during its last conference. However, the company did not reveal other products in the smartphone category.

Some expectations had indicated that Google would announce its foldable phone at the conference, which would come under the Pixel brand as well, but this did not happen. We recall that Google had confirmed earlier in 2019 that it was working on a prototype of its foldable phone.

Indeed, Google has applied for patents for foldable screens and various other components. Also, a number of leaks have surfaced in recent months, but it seems that Google is still not ready to reveal what it has found.

And the leaks about the Google foldable phone, which is often called the Pixel Fold, have been around for a long time, but some of them were very close. Like the Korean report, TheElec, which indicated that Samsung will soon start manufacturing foldable OLED screens for the company.

The phone appeared in the company’s internal documents with the code name Passport, and the information was stating that the phone would arrive at the end of 2021. This information was confirmed by more than one source, including the well-known leaker Evan Blass.

The sources confirmed more than once the announcement of the phone during the year 2021. However, the expiration of the Pixel conference has frustrated those waiting for the phone, but the company still has more than two months to reveal the phone or even to hint to it.

It is reported that the Passport codename has appeared in the company’s internal documents, some of which were leaked in August 2020, more than a year after the company announced its work on a foldable phone, and if anything indicated, it would indicate that Google did not back down from the idea.

And besides, Resources Reliable has mentioned that the company will not only release the Passport, but that it is also testing a version called Jumbojack, and expectations have indicated that Jumbojack is a phone with a design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip phones.

That’s where the term jumbojack refers to what looks like a burger. Whereas the term Passport has a clear meaning. It refers to a design similar to the larger Galaxy Z Fold.

And back to TheElec reports, which covered great aspects about the phone. Samsung is expected to start manufacturing OLED screens for Google’s foldable phones this October. This is based on the Ultra-Thin Glass technology that it uses in its phones.

The Android system has come with significant improvements for foldable phones, in its latest release, which was another hint of a foldable phone coming from the company. However, things are still ambiguous, and besides, we are still unable to reach an accurate prediction about the success of a foldable phone from a company Google, in light of the fact that the market is not yet mature.
