Fares Ibrahim of Qatar has won the gold medal in the men’s 96-kilogram weightlifting category in Tokyo Olympics 2021.
23-year-old Ibrahim lifted 177 kilograms in the snatch and 225 in the clean & jerk for a total of 402 kg at the Tokyo Games on Saturday.
Venezuela’s Keydomar Vallenilla Sanchez won sliver and Georgia’s Anton Pliesnoi won bronze.
This is the first time Qatar’s flag being hoisted in Olympics.
Before this, Mutaz Barshim’s silver medal at Rio Games in 2016 in high jump was Qatar’s best achievement in the Olympics.
