The multinational of beverages Coca Cola, followed by Pepsi, Unilever and Nestlé, are the companies that cause the most plastic pollution in the world, said today the study published annually by the environmental organization Greenpeace on the matter.

Coca-Cola, which has topped the list in the four years that this monitoring has been carried out since 2018, produces about 10 percent of the plastic packaging associated with brands that is wasted on the planet, or three million tons, according to estimates. the study.

Greenpeace also highlights that Unilever, one of the sponsoring firms of the Climate Change Summit that begins this week in Glasgow, has overtaken Nestlé to occupy third place this year.

Also in the top-10 on the list are Procter & Gamble, Mondelez, Philip Morris, Danone, Mars and Colgate-Palmolive.

The study has been carried out with the help of 11,000 volunteers who have cleaned the beaches in 45 countries and who have collected more than 330,000 containers.

Greenpeace also recalls the relationship of this plastic pollution with climate change, since 99% of these containers are manufactured from fossil fuels in the petrochemical industry.
