GTA in VR: You can soon play the best part in virtual reality

GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas will be reissued in November in the form of a remastered version – so far nothing new. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg, because Oculus has now announced that they have been working on a VR implementation of GTA: San Andreas for several years. However, details are currently still in short supply.

GTA: San Andreas – Oculus is working on VR implementation

Despite the huge potential, VR could not really take off in 2021 either. But that could change soon. At the company’s own Connect 2021 trade fair, Oculus announced that it had been participating in one for several years VR implementation of GTA: San Andreas would work (Source: Oculus):

“Today at Connect we announced that the Rockstar Games classic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in development for Quest 2. Experience Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas from a new perspective and experience (again or for the first time) one of the most iconic open worlds in gaming history. This project has been worked on for many years and we can’t wait to show you more of it. “

The open-world game was released in 2004 and was able to cast a spell over millions of players at the time. In a few weeks, the gangster classic will also appear as part of a remastered collection together with GTA 3 and Vice City.

GTA in VR: a lot is still unknown

It is not yet known when exactly the VR implementation will start. Oculus also owed GTA fans more details. There was also no visual material or a gameplay trailer to be seen. However, one thing was made clear from the start: The game is currently in development for Quest 2. It is not yet clear whether it will be ported to other platforms at a later date.

It is quite possible that Oculus will offer the VR-GTA exclusively for Quest 2 for one year and only then offer it for competing products – because the VR implementation could turn out to be a real system seller for Quest 2if it is implemented properly.
