Higher Education Ministry of Jordan and the QFFD sign an MoU to develop the education sector. 

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Jordan and Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) have signed an MoU to contribute to the development of the education sector. This will be achieved by strengthening, rehabilitating and developing the educational capabilities of the young people.

The MoU has been signed in the presence of Nasser Shraideh, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of Jordan. Education Above All Foundation will cooperate to implement and manage all the projects.

“This agreement comes in the context of joint cooperation between the two brotherly countries, which contributes to the rehabilitation and improvement of the educational capabilities of young people through the support and financing of the Scholarships Program for Youth of the Qatar Scholarships program. The scholarships cover the costs of tuition fees,” said Khalifa Al Kuwari, Director-General of the QFFD.

The agreement is an extension of Jordan’s efforts to improve the educational sector of the country in the past decades. Khalifa Al Kuwari said that this has made them one of the top countries in gender equality and generalising primary school enrolment in Jordanian schools.

the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Luminus Technical University College (LTUC) will implement the program. Over 800 students of Jordanian nationalities and refugees hosted by the country will receive educational services by the MoU. The program will include the provision of various certificates,  local diplomas, technical diplomas and bachelor’s degrees.

“This program will have the greatest impact on supporting Jordanian students and enabling them to complete their studies in technical and applied disciplines required in the local and regional labour market. This program will also provide support to a large number of refugee students residing in the Kingdom and ensure a safer future for them, as they will also be able to complete their studies,” said Dr Mohammed Khair Abu Qudais, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Jordan.

Jordan Nasser Shraideh, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of Jordan stressed the government’s appreciation of the QFFD and the Education Above All Foundation for their contribution to the initiative.

“The agreement aimed at providing important educational opportunities for marginalised youth, as we also witness new cooperation between Qatar and Jordan in the education sector,” said Fahd bin Hamad Al Sulaiti, CEO of Education Above All Foundation. The program will help Jordanian students to improve their quality of education and complete their education.

He also appreciated Qatar for the QR 10m to provide the coronavirus vaccine through Qatar Charity recently.

“We are proud of the progress made by the two countries in the educational fields at all levels, and we are looking forward to furthering accomplish progress and partnership in this area,” said Ambassador of Qatar to Jordan, H E Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani.
