In Yemen, QRCS is restoring six COVID-19 health care facilities
For COVID-19 patients in Yemen, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched a project to restore and equip six health centres in Sanaa and Taiz. To support Yemen’s ailing health sector, QRCS is funding this project with the proceeds of a fundraising campaign launched in memory of Jaber Al Masoud.
In the first phase, Al Thawra General Hospital in Sanaa and Al Jomhouri University Hospital in Taiz will receive support for two quarantine/isolation facilities. Al Thawra Hospital, Al Jomhouri Hospital (Sanaa), Al Salam Hospital, and Yemen Red Crescent Hospital will be supported in the second phase of the project later (Taiz).
They were chosen from a list of 38 health centres designated as COVID-19 quarantine facilities by Yemen’s Ministry of Health and Population and the Yemen Health Cluster. As a result of the pandemic’s severity, the project involves the restoration and maintenance of the centres’ facilities.
“With $593,501 funding from QRCS, the project contributes to six quarantine facilities, to save the lives of COVID-19 patients. It involves supplying intensive care units (ICUs) with ventilators, DC shocks, anaesthesia, vital signs monitors, X-ray and ultrasound imaging machines, and other medical equipment, medications, and laboratory solutions,” said Mohamed Al Waziza, the project’s manager.
“Today, QRCS is making a new contribution to its health projects. We took handover of a fully-fledged ICU comprising 14 vital signs monitors, liquid sucker, syringe pump, and portable radiographer. All the ICU supplies were received today by the hospital. It is not something unusual for QRCS, as the main contributor to the health sector of Taiz and humanity at large,” said Dr Nashwan Al Hossami, Director of the Al Jomhouri General University Hospital in Taiz.
Chairman of Al Thawra General Hospital Dr Abdul-Malik Jahaf thanked QRCS for providing medical equipment, medications, and laboratory solutions to the Coronavirus Control Center in Sanaa. Recently, QRCS had launched a fundraising campaign in memory of Jaber Al Masoud, the famous blogger. Approximately 25,000 Yemenis, mostly women and children, will benefit from the restoration and maintenance of health care facilities. Qatar’s benevolent donors were delighted with the fundraising campaign.
