Clashes with firearms, blocked roads and burning vehicles paralyzed the city of Matamoros on Friday night, Tamaulipas.

For the second time in a week, the city registered an escalation of generalized violence after the armed confrontation registered last Sunday that left four assassins killed as a balance.

The first armed confrontation between state police and armed members of organized crime took place in the south of the city at around 8:30 p.m. in the Paseo Residencial and Colonia Mariano Matamoros neighborhood, on the street of Mexicali.

The armed events spread to sixth street in the center of the city, right in front of the Plaza Fiesta shopping center on Pedro Cárdenas avenue.

On this site, people who ate at a fast food franchise had to throw themselves on the floor and seek protection between the tables from the detonations registered, according to some videos uploaded to social networks.

The authorities also reported detonations with weapons in the Fraccionamiento Victoria and in the Buenavista neighborhood.

Armed men blocked Sendero Nacional avenue with vehicles, as well as in some sectors of sixth street.

Those attending a circus performance installed on Manuel Cavazos Lerma boulevard, had to throw themselves to the ground in search of protection from the fear of being hit by bullets.
