Pfizer Covid-19 booster doses approved for 12- to 15-year-olds by MOPH

The administration of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster vaccines for children aged 12 to 15 years has been approved by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).

β€œThe decision is in line with the recent studies that demonstrate the safety and efficacy of booster doses using the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in this age group,” MoPH said on their website

As indicated by the Ministry, the booster dose will considerably strengthen their immunity against all COVID-19 forms, including Omicron.

COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 12 to 15 years were approved by the Ministry in May 2021, and nine out of ten children in Qatar have got two doses of the vaccine. For this age group, the vaccinations have proven to be safe and effective, with just minor adverse effects observed.

The COVID-19 booster vaccine is available to children aged 12 to 15 who have received their second dose more than six months ago. The Ministry recently authorised the administration of booster dosages to children aged 16 and 17. The Ministry of Health has asked parents to help their children get their COVID-19 booster dose when they are eligible.

Booster vaccines are available at all Primary Health Care Corporation health centres for children aged 12 to 15. Parents of eligible children can book an appointment for their children by calling the PHCC hotline at 4027 7077. For this age group, health centres also allow walk-in visits.
