Qatar aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030

Doha: Aiming at a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change said that Qatar launched a national climate change action plan on Thursday.

The plan will also strive for a 25% reduction in the “carbon intensity” of its liquefied natural gas facilities. This is also planned for achieving by 2030.Β

The move comes on the heels of the announcement by Saudi Arabia of a net-zero emissions target by 2060 ahead of the COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow. By 2027, Qatar aims to produce 127 million tonnes of LNG, making it the world’s largest LNG producer.

Globally, the company says its gas production contributes to fighting climate change owing to its ability to replace high-polluting fuels like oil and coal with renewable energy.

As part of the plan, increased efforts will be made at the company’s gas production facilities to capture and store carbon.
