Somalia receives a surgical convoy from QRCS

Doha: A medical surgery for general and ENT surgery has been launched by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Somalia in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Somalia.

The project is part of the QRCS’s initiative to provide poor countries with adequate health care facilities. The project costs $150,023 (QR 547,584). The surgeries will be performed at the De Martini General Hospital in Banaadir, Somalia with the help of specialized and highly experienced surgeons from the country.

A team consisting of ENT surgeons, anaesthetists, general surgeons and perioperative nurses has been deployed. With two referrals to specialised centres for pathology tests, they have performed 24 operations and 79 clinical examinations so far. 

The project will benefit 200 patients. The team will perform surgeries for them. For the continuation of high-quality services even after the project, the initiative will provide necessary medical equipment to the hospital. The 15-day QRCS project also aims to train the doctors, nurses and other staff to increase their efficiency and enhance the quality of treatment.
