Qatar extends distance learning system in public and private schools

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Qatar has extended remote learning until January 27, 2022. This is because of the current circumstances surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) and the daily growth in the number of patients.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Education, the following has been decided upon following extensive deliberation and cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health and other relevant authorities:

First, the remote learning system will continue, and all public and private schools and kindergartens will suspend attendance until January 27.

Second, the administrative and educational staff’s ongoing attendance at public and private schools and kindergartens.

The third step will be to conduct supplement examinations in government schools from January 18 to 27, 2022, and major exams in private schools according to their academic calendars, while following the preventive procedures adopted in this respect.

Fourth, on an exceptional basis, at 50 per cent of the school’s capacity, adopting the physical attendance system for particular classes and stages, with a promise to apply all preventive measures set in this respect, and these stages are:

1. Students in secondary school, grades 11 and 12 in public schools and 11 and 12 in private schools.

2. Students in public and private schools with special needs and disabilities.

3. Students who are enrolled in specialised schools.

4. Both students and parents have the option of attending.

Fifth, physical attendance of children in nurseries at 50% capacity, if parents choose to participate.

Sixth: Maintaining 100% student attendance at universities and colleges.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Qatar urged students to fully participate in remotely delivered classes and parents to monitor their children’s attendance via the distance learning system, as well as to maintain contact and collaboration with school administration and educational personnel.
