NEW YORK.- Ivan Reyes Arzate, alias “La Reina”, faces five to 40 years in prison for drug trafficking charges, after pleading guilty in the Eastern District Court of New York.
Reyez-Arzate was a police officer and Commander of the Investigation Unit of the Mexican Federal Police and it was recognized that he received a bribe – allegedly of up to three million dollars – in exchange for help the Beltrán Leyva Organization.

Prosecutors from the Brooklyn-based court brought the case, after Reyes Arzate turned himself in to a court in Illinois. His case is also related to the Sinaloa Cartel. The same judge sentenced JoaquĂn “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera.
In that same court, the former Mexican Public Security Secretary, Genaro Garcia Luna, also faces accusations for leading a criminal organization from the government. “The Queen” could be a key witness in that case.
