Sheikha Al Mayassa speaks of the importance of mangroves

HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, chairperson of Qatar Museums (QM) has highlighted the importance of mangroves in her social media account.
She highlighted the importance of mangroves at the coastal area which will safeguard the globe safe and protected.
“Mangroves are rare, spectacular and prolific ecosystems on the boundary between land and sea,” Al Mayassa tweeted with a bunch of photographs of lush mangroves at Al Thakira.
“These extraordinary ecosystems contribute to the wellbeing, food security, and protection of coastal communities worldwide,” she said.
Mangroves are the only type of tree that can stand and grow in salty waters. It serves as natural air filters which can clean carbon emissions from air.
In Qatar, mangroves are located in the north of the seaside city of Al Khor – Al Thakira.
The area has already become a popular destination due to its vast green scenery and kayaking activities.
In the cold months, between November and April, visitors can also watch Flamingoes at the place.
