Valve wants to make sure games are compatible with Steam Deck

With Steam Deck launching in December 2021, Valve has taken some time to make sure gamers know which games work on their mobile devices.

Although its site still promises your Steam library anywhere, there was little doubt whether games designed for PC would work well on a Linux mobile device.

Steam Deck compatibility stickers appear across any game published on Steam, divided into four categories. The highest level, verified, has a green logo with a check mark. It refers to games that work perfectly via Steam Deck.

And the lower level gets a yellow exclamation point to turn on, which means you may need to manually tweak the settings to make it work.

The other two tags are for games that are not supported by Steam Deck or are unknown because they have not been tested yet.

Verified games run with an on-screen keyboard, and support Steam Deck’s native resolution. It also fully supports the operating system.

You can navigate its menus using the joystick. The front page of the built-in store only shows verified games. But you can still browse or search the entire store.

Valve also introduced informations Developers to verify that their games support a laptop and steps so anyone can submit games for review.

Valve is testing games compatible with Steam Deck

Important games may be reviewed even if they are not submitted manually. Developers can submit games for review before they are released.

And even if the developer thinks their game isn’t suitable for Steam Deck, there’s no way to hide it from the device’s built-in store.

The company says that rather than restricting access to certain products, we want to enable customers to find the right products given their specific goals and desires.

For PC games, compatibility across a wide range of devices is both a strength and a weakness. And everything from special control schemes to anti-fraud software can cause problems.

The company is trying to take proactive steps to help owners know which games are working right away.
