The hurricane Rick made landfall this morning on Mexican coasts as category 2 in the state of Guerrero, leaving behind heavy rains and floods, reported the National Water Commission (Conagua).
According to the latest reports, Rick advanced slowly towards the shores of the Mexican Pacific until land in the vicinity of the municipality of La Unión de Isidoro Montes de Oca, in Guerrero, around 5:00 a.m., Central Mexico time.
“The center of Hurricane Rick, category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, made landfall in the vicinity of the municipality of La Unión de Isidoro Montes de Oca, Guerrero, at 05:00 local time (10:00 GMT),” reported la Conagua on his Twitter account.
The cyclone moves north at 13 kilometers per hour registering sustained winds of 165 km / h with gusts of 205 km / h.
After making landfall, The National Meteorological Service specified that at 7:00 a.m. local time, the cyclone advanced several kilometers inland and is located 25 kilometers northeast of Lázaro Cárdenas (Michoacán) and 75 kilometers northwest of Zihuatanejo (Guerrero).
“The center of Hurricane Rick, category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, is located on land in the vicinity of the municipality of Arteaga, Michoacán. Its cloud bands cause very strong rains at extraordinary points, strong winds and high waves in western and southern states of the country ”, indicated another of the SMN reports.
In social networks, images of Rick’s arrival on the Mexican coast are disseminated, where the impact of strong winds is observed, as well as the floods that the meteorological phenomenon began to leave behind.
Before Rick’s arrival, The authorities thus alerted the population of the arrival of the meteorological phenomenon with speakers in places like Zihuatanejo, Guerrero.
At the port of Lázaro Cárdenas Michoacán, Rick’s gusts of wind and rain were also felt with great force.
The SMN estimated that Rick’s cloud bands will produce “extraordinary specific rains that could generate landslides and floods in areas of Michoacán and Guerrero, intense punctual rains in Jalisco (south) and Colima, in addition to very strong punctual rains in Guanajuato ”.
According to the meteorological forecast, Rick will weaken in the next few hours after crossing part of the states of Guerrero, Michoacán and Jalisco.
Civil Protection of Mexico in the last hours put 11 states of Mexico and 712 municipalities on alert for Hurricane Rick, placing the states of Guerrero and Michoacán in “maximum danger”.
