The authorities of La Palma, Spain, issued an evacuation alert for more than 800 people on Tuesday due to the proximity of a lava flow that runs at high speed and that consumes homes and other structures in its path. Internet users managed to capture the lava river that flows into the Atlantic.

In a series of tweets, the emergency services of the Canary Islands urged the population of Llanos de Adrián to “leave their houses, belongings and animals”To go to a nearby evacuation point due to the advance of lava flow in the last 24 hours.

Days before, more than 3,000 people were confined to their homes after lava from the volcano destroyed a cement factory and release highly toxic gases into the air.

The Cumbre Vieja erupted on September 19. After almost a month, three lava flows have been identified that go to the Atlantic feeding the delta, that exceeds 40 hectares and that modifies the environment of the island.

The three rivers have consumed everything in their path from roads, houses, structures that exceed 200 million euros in damages thus far.

The volcano emits 4,522 tons of sulfur dioxide and 1,958 tons of carbon dioxide per day, which according to scientists does not represent any risk for residents or visitors to the island.

The Cumbre Vieja is one of the most active volcanic complexes in the Canary Islands. Two of the last three eruptions recorded on the islands have occurred in it, the San Juan volcano, in 1949, and the Teneguía, in 1971. that caused a victim by inhalation of gases.

La Palma, like the rest of the Canary Islands, is an island of volcanic origin. With an estimated geological age of two million years, it is one of the youngest in the archipelago.
