Workers in Qatar will now have health insurance
The new mandatory health insurance policy will benefit every expatriate as the company will provide them with insurance policies in Qatar. The insurance policy will also be extended to the families of the workforce.
“Every expatriate who enters or works in Qatar will be required for basic health insurance through the company they work for or provide health insurance coverage for their family members,” said Khaled Al Mughaisib, Adviser to the Minister of Public Health.
“The targeted group will apply for an insurance policy through their companies during the next 6 months to local private insurance companies,” said Al Mughaisib. An individual can have additional insurance if he needs it along with the basic insurance policy.
The health insurance policy will have a deliberate amount. “The mechanisms for implementing mandatory health insurance system will be simple like requiring policy while renewing the residence permit or upon entering the country,” he said speaking in a Qatar TV programme. Upon the introduction of mandatory health insurance, everyone will have to have it after six months.
“The experience is new, we are establishing a health insurance industry, whether from the private sector that provides medical services or insurance companies and their support companies, and they will be responsible.”Al Mughaisib said while questioned about monitoring the system.
“There will be many levels of monitoring within the ministry and through committees, and we have an electronic system that monitors operations on daily basis and through mechanisms to know if there is any kind of exploitation,” said Al Mughaisib.
As for complaints, he said that there are different levels of complaint resolution ranging from individual beneficiaries, insurance companies, or clinics to the Department of Insurance and Finance at the Ministry of Public Health.
