In Afghanistan, Qatar’s humanitarian assistance is expected to surpass $50 million.
Doha: Qatar emphasized Tuesday its entire solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and its continued assistance until they achieve their genuine objectives for stability, security, peace, and growth. Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said as much during the High-Level Ministerial Meeting on the Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan, which was held virtually.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that Qatar sent 188 tonnes of food and medical supplies to Afghanistan last week and that Qatar’s financial commitment and help to Afghanistan will surpass $50 million. The Minister of State said that the State of Qatar, in the course of fulfilling its humanitarian responsibility, hurried to assist in the evacuations, providing temporary accommodation for evacuees as well as food, healthcare and COVID-19 vaccinations.
Another Qatari technical team is working on partial repairs at Kabul’s airport, which will enable the entrance of essential humanitarian supplies and people’s free movement, as well as establishing secure corridors that will allow for the distribution of needed relief. Aside from humanitarian help and medical supplies, Qatar also supports programmes for elementary education, according to the Minister of Education.
Qatar has maintained its role as an international partner to Afghanistan, relying on its impartial mediation and efficient international relations to develop international consensus on Afghanistan in order to achieve the interests of its people. According to him, Doha also hosted a large number of allies, foreign leaders, and Afghan officials, with whom he had extensive meetings and talks in order to establish stability in Afghanistan and solve humanitarian concerns.
He emphasised the significance of unifying efforts to protect civilians, create safe corridors, and ensure freedom of movement and access to humanitarian supplies, as well as the need for national reconciliation and the preservation of the accomplishments gained by the Afghan people. Al-Muraikhi thanked UN Secretary-General for convening the conference and directing the United Nations’ efforts to solve Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis as his final words.
