Qatar-Afghan meeting discusses development cooperation

Doha: To examine ways to improve collaboration in many fields, a meeting was held between two delegations from Qatar and the Caretaker Government of Afghanistan. 

HE Assistant Foreign Minister Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater presided over the meeting on the Qatari side, and HE Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Afghan Caretaker Government Amir Khan Muttaqi presided over the meeting on the Afghan side.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Education Above All Foundation, and the Qatar Fund For Development were among the Qatari agencies that attended the meeting. Qatar Charity and the Qatar Red Crescent Society also participated in the meeting.

On the Afghan side, the conference was attended by HE Minister of Higher Education in the Afghan Caretaker Government, Mawlavi Abdul Baqi Haqqani, as well as members from the Ministry of Economy and the Central Bank of Afghanistan.

Discussions focused on ways to improve educational cooperation, particularly in terms of training teachers and providing educational opportunities for Afghan students, in several fields, including Arabic language and Islamic education as well as business and agricultural technology to help rehabilitate Afghan cadres.

Furthermore, the two sides explored ways for Qatar to provide assistance in the areas of development and individual economic empowerment. A special emphasis was placed on how crucial it is for Islamic nations, particularly those in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to work together and provide aid and development to the Afghan people.

The Qatari institutions that took part showed a desire to help Afghanistan’s educational sector with technical and material assistance. They also continued to provide assistance in the areas of development and relief.
