Qatar Airways to boost its service to Nigeria

Doha: Qatar Airways is expanding its Nigerian service with the addition of four weekly flights to Kano (KAN) on March 2, 2022, and three weekly flights to Port Harcourt (PHC) on March 3, 2022, all via Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Lagos has two daily flights and Abuja has four weekly flights, which will become daily in March. Kano and Port Harcourt will be Qatar Airways’ sixth and eighth additional African gateways, respectively since the outbreak began. Both flights will be served by the cutting-edge Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which has 22 Business Class seats and 232 Economy Class seats.

“The airline was one of the few to keep operating to many African destinations throughout the pandemic and, as restrictions are lifted, is continuing to expand its network on the continent. As home to the largest economy and population in the region, we see tremendous growth potential for travel and trade in Nigeria. It is a key market and an important part of our African growth strategy; the expansion of our presence across two new gateways is a testament to our continuous commitment to Nigeria,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, H E Akbar Al Baker.

“We anticipate good reciprocal demand between Port Harcourt, UK, USA and destinations across Asia. For Kano, we see the opportunity to grow traffic to and from markets such as KSA and India, as well as strong cargo prospects.”

Qatar Airways is returning service to all of its African destinations as travel restrictions ease. When flights between Kano and Port Harcourt begin, the airline will offer 188 weekly flights to 28 African locations. Qatar Airways African clients will now enjoy hefty baggage allowances of up to 46kg in Economy Class and 64kg in Business Class.
