Samsung gives up: special television does not appear after all

Samsung actually wanted to attack with a whole range of televisions that use special display technology. But nothing will come of that – because at least the “smaller” micro-LED televisions will not be published for the time being. The production is probably too expensive even for Samsung.

Small micro-LED TVs: Samsung rejects plans

Televisions with micro LEDs should combine the best of both worlds. High luminosity and durability as with LC displays, paired with the best black values as with OLEDs, ensure an even better picture. Now even Samsung has to admit that the costs get out of hand. Unlike previously planned, only the largest models for private and business customers are to be released in 2022. The “smallest” variant with a diagonal of 76 inches does not come.

According to South Korean media, the special technology of micro-LED televisions can be used do not miniaturize as assumed. The already extremely expensive smart TVs will therefore initially only come onto the market as maxi models. We are talking about 89, 101 and 114 inches (source: The Elec via 4K Films).

The first television with micro-LEDs Samsung had published several versions under the name “The Wall”. However, the exorbitant television is nothing for private households, because depending on the size, the luxury TV costs up to 450,000 euros. For this sum there is a micro-LED television with 146 inches diagonal and 4K resolution.

Samsung’s micro-LED TVs: prices still unknown

The group has not yet revealed how much Samsung would like to have for the planned micro-LED models. The 89 inch version is priced at around 100,000 euros to go out. It will therefore be a long time before the new display technology for home cinema becomes a real breakthrough.
