Co-President Jen Oneal resigns after a few months
After just a few months, Blizzard Entertainment’s co-president Jen Oneal has announced her resignation. In the future, she would like to put all of her energy into cultivating equality and diversity in the gaming industry.
After J. Allen Brack resigned as President of Blizzard Entertainment last summer, a lot had happened at the top of the company. Brack had taken his hat after allegedly involved in recent sexual harassment, bullying and discrimination scandals.
Oneal wants to have a bigger impact on the industry
Jen Oneal then took over the management of the company together with Mike Ybarra as co-president. But after less than three months, she announced that she would be vacating her post at the end of the year. She wants to find out how more she can do to combine video games and diversity.
In the past, Jen Oneal was, among other things, the managing director of the developer studio Vicarious Visions (“Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy”). Regarding her resignation, Oneal wrote on the official Activision site:
“I’m not doing this because I have no hope in Blizzard; it’s pretty much the opposite. I am inspired by the passion of everyone who is here and wholeheartedly works for a meaningful, lasting change. That energy inspired me to step forward and explore how I can do more to connect games and diversity, and hopefully make a broader impact on the industry that will benefit Blizzard (and other studios) as well. Even if I’m not completely sure what form this will take, I look forward to embarking on this new journey to find out. “

Mike Ybarra will be the sole president of Blizzard Entertainment effective immediately, while Oneal will hold a new position at Activision through the end of the year. In the time she has left, she will decide how to use a donation of 1 million US dollars for the non-profit organization “Women in Games International”. The organization seeks to cultivate and promote equality and diversity in the global video game industry.
