Pixel 6: Google phone can’t come close to meeting expectations

Google has launched excellent Android smartphones with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. But in one point the new devices are clearly at a disadvantage. Google cannot even call up the charging power that is officially promised with the 30 watts.

Google Pixel 6 loads much slower than expected

In my test of the Google Pixel 6 Pro, I immediately noticed that the new top smartphone Loads relatively slowly compared to the competition. If the battery is almost completely empty, it takes two hours. I was surprised that a Samsung power supply unit with 25 watts would take me just as long as a 60 watt PD power supply unit. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro should charge with 30 watts. Don’t do it, as research shows.

In fact, the Google Pixel 6 Pro doesn’t even begin to charge with 30 watts. The first quarter will filled with a maximum of 22 watts. After that, the charging speed drops rapidly, which greatly increases the charging time. Towards the end, the Google phone only charges with less than 5 watts, despite the 30 watt power adapter, which takes forever.

A Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra with the same size battery and the 30 watt charging adapter from Google can be charged in just over an hour. Even that Google Pixel 5 will be ready in 87 minutes. Only the Google Pixel 6 Pro takes a lot longer to charge. There is no need to make a comparison with Xiaomi’s 120 watt charging technology. There are worlds in between.

You can find out what else the Google Pixel 6 can do in the Video:

Did Google promise too much on the Pixel 6?

In fact not. If you look at the product page of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google says that the smartphones are “charged up to 50% in 30 minutes”. This is also the case in this test. 50 percent is achieved in 31 minutes. After that, the charging curve collapses so much that for the remaining 50 percent almost 1.5 hours to be needed. Much more would be possible here if one speaks of a 30 watt fast charging function, which Google officially states.
