Celtics legend Sam Jones has died at 88

Sam Jones, one of the most outstanding players in the history of the Boston Celtics and a member of the NBA Hall, died on Friday at the age of 88, the AP reported.

A shooting guard-forward with great scoring ability, Sam Jones played for the Celtics between 1957 and 1969. In those years he was part of a machine that won the league title 10 times.

Together with Bill Russell, he formed one of the most effective pairs in basketball.

Jones was an active player for 12 seasons, and his other accomplishments include five invitations to the All-Star Game, three First Team All-Star selections and inclusion among the top 75 players in NBA history.
