Doha: Teachers who are mentoring science projects for a Qatar Children’s Science Congress were recently trained by the Science India Forum (SIF) Qatar, which is sponsored by the Indian Embassy (QCSC).
This is a new initiative that aims to excite and empower children by encouraging them to explore the world of science. SIF Qatar has been running the programme under several topics since 2015. ‘Science for Sustainable Living’ is this year’s theme for the conference. It is open to students from all around the world, regardless of their nationality.
An expert in competitive exams such as NCSC, INSPIRE, IRIS, ISEF, OLYMPIADS and NTSE – Dr Hemant Pande – led the participating teachers on how a basic concept becomes a science project, and then becomes a finished product in the end. A teacher’s duty is to help pupils develop ideas and convert them into large initiatives, he added.
A few of his students’ initiatives that were recognised at the national and international levels were highlighted by Dr Hemant. He emphasised that Guide Teachers should assist pupils to come up with ideas on their own, and then help them develop those ideas. He also gave advice on how to properly monitor the project using internal assessment and make it successful.
SMART objectives were discussed by M P Philip, the principal of Bhavan’s Public School, who was in attendance as a special guest. After the event, SIF Qatar thanked all of those who helped make it a success – including the experts, teachers, mentors, and all participants.
