No 120 FPS on PS5 at the time of release – new screenshots

When “Battlefield 2042” hits the market on November 19th, new-gen gamers will have to be content with 60 FPS for the time being. That’s what an EA developer answered on ResetEra.

Battlefield 2042: No 120 FPS on PS5 for release - new screenshots

The frame rate plays an important role in online shooters. That is why many console gamers are interested in whether the PS5 and Xbox Series versions of “Battlefield 2042” will have a 120 FPS mode when it is launched.

An EA DICE developer gave up the answer yesterday ResetEra: “It is something that could possibly be investigated after the launch.”

In any case, the resolution is not the problem here, explains the developer. The CPU of the consoles is heavily loaded by the 128 players. The additional CPU requirement to increase the refresh rate from 60 to 120 FPS, however, is manageable. Therefore reducing the resolution would hardly be of any use.

Vanguard with 120 FPS option

Thus, the players will have to forego 120 Hz support for the release. It looks different with the upcoming “Call of Duty: Vanguard”: The modern Sony console offers a dynamic 1260p resolution at 120 frames per second. It must be noted here, however, that the maps are much smaller than in “Battlefield 2042”. The graphics cannot keep up with the new EA shooter either.

“Battlefield 2042” is displayed on the PS5 with a dynamic 4K resolution and 60 FPS. The PS4 Pro has 1620 pixels, while the standard PS4 shows the action in Full HD. The frame rate is identical.
