Gaza hospitals blessed by QRCS’s determined project

The Qatar Red Crescent Society is still adamant about providing the hospitals in Gaza with multifaceted resources. In cooperation with the Ministry of Health (MoH) Palestine, QRCS provides medical experts for surgical and other medical services in Gaza. With a total budget of $1.4m (QR5,103,000), QRCS continues to execute the Gaza Specialized Surgeries Support Project.

The aim of this esteemed project is to provide proper support to the medical sector of Gaza. This includes increasing the total capacity of the staff, enhancing the quality of the medical facilities and high-quality medical services. It is estimated that over 18000 people will be benefited from the project per year.

Recently an executive agreement was signed between QRCS and MoH as a beneficiary and partner. This was stated by Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi, Executive Director of Relief and International Development Division at QRCS.

“Our mission there worked together with MoH to nominate the consultant physicians to be hired under the project and identify their respective tasks. Some already contracted physicians under the previous health system support project were contracted, to preserve the merits and targets of the project”.

The execution of the project has provided the hospitals in Gaza with various experts in different specialities of urology, pulmonology, cardiology, orthopaedics, plastic surgery cardiothoracic surgery, anaesthesia and cardiovascular surgery.

The mission has been performed 3,786 surgical interventions so far. The project also treated 156 victims fro the war on Gaza and offered medical consultation to 14,128 patients.

It is reported that 74 per cent of the supplies for treatment is delivered under a tender to procure medical equipment for open-heart surgeries. The rest of the supplies are also delivering the remaining items. The pharmacy workflow at MoH’s workplace has been computerised instead of using the paperwork system. As a result, all the equipment like computers, tablets and printers are also delivered at the right time. This is under the Clinical Pharmacy Programme.

Under the QRCS-funded MA of Health Policy and Management Program, the students are pursuing their postgraduate studies in the second semester. Meanwhile, 20 students on scholarships are studying remotely for Diploma in Anesthesia and Intensive Care. The third semester is completed, and they are attending their internships. The tender to supply medications for children with phenylketonuria (PKU) is in progress.

With 64 trainees divided into six groups, a minimally invasive surgery (MIS) training course was completed at the Ahli Arab Hospital during the course of the project.

Also, 10 laptops were procured for Palestine Medical Council (PMC) to facilitate the Arab Board examinations in Gaza. Lastly, 77 digital thermometers were provided for primary schools to enforce coronavirus control and preventive measures.
