MME released 34,000 young hamours into Qatar waters

Doha: In collaboration with the Natural Reserves Department and the Beaches and Islands Section at the MME,Β 34,000 young hamours (groupers) were released into the sea by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).

This was done under a project implemented to enrich fish resources in Qatar to achieve self-sufficiency and food security. MME also published a video showing how the fish is transported from the hatchery to the sea.

In June, MME had introduced another initiative to farm 600 tonnes of tilapia per year through registered farms in Qatar. The idea is to utilize the nutrient-rich water from fish farms to grow organic vegetables to produce goods with high economic value.
