Then there were the takeovers of Stunlock Studios as well as the British publisher Sumo Digital. As Tencent announced, the group has now also secured a minority stake in Kadokawa, the parent company of the “Dark Souls” makers of From Software.

Investments should flow into the development of games

According to the official announcement, Tencent is acquiring 6.86 percent of the shares in Kadokawa and the whole thing will cost the equivalent of about 264 million US dollars. Officially, there is talk of a strategic partnership between the two companies, which is to be further expanded through investments by Tencent. Kadokawa said the new funding will go towards developing upcoming games.
