Darfur ruler confirms that Qatar has provided clear support in Doha Document for the Peace of the Region

Mona Arko Minawi, Governor of the Darfur region and head of the Sudan Liberation Movement, praised the role played by the State of Qatar in favour of the stability and development of Darfur through the Doha Peace Agreement. He stressed that Qatar has provided a lot in the fields of establishing model villages, service projects, maintaining schools, establishing various institutions and supporting fields of Human development, as it provided clear support in the framework of the implementation of the Doha Document for peace in the region.

In his statements, Minawi reviewed his government’s plans during the coming period and its endeavour to benefit from all the experiences of the peace process, saying, “We were not an alternative to the roles played by Doha in Darfur, and the Juba Agreement is an extension of the role it played in the field of peace. We extend our thanks to the State of Qatar for what has played an appreciable role in the development of Darfur and supporting stability, and we welcome the continuation of its efforts in Darfur to continue developing the region, which is the basis of the country’s stability.”

He also valued the regional and international roles that took place during the last period in favour of establishing and strengthening peace in Darfur, indicating that Darfur is looking forward to more support during the coming period to transform into real stability.

The governor of the region pointed out that the biggest challenges facing the region are the establishment of security, the implementation of the security arrangements clause, the strengthening of the humanitarian situation, the implementation of transitional justice, and the establishment of new mechanisms for dialogue and tribal reconciliations to create a new reality of lasting peace in accordance with the provisions of the Juba Peace Agreement, renewing his call to all movements Armed with the voice of peace prevailing and entering into serious negotiations to join peace.

Mr Moni Arko Minawi considered that collective action is the basis for permanent stability, stressing that unity of ranks, the strength of decision-making and concerted efforts are the basis for consolidating the new phase in the Darfur region.
