A Miami-Dade county court found an African-American guilty of beating a Latino from 74 years in the Miami subway. The sentence will be given on December 1 next.

Robert Lee Ribbs, a 62-year-old homeless man, faced several charges, among which stand out that of Aggravated assault of a person over the age of 65 and robbery.

The extremely violent attack of September 20, 2020 was captured by Metromover security cameras. The pictures show the man repeatedly hitting and kicking Eduardo Fernández, 74, for no apparent reason.

The arrest record stated that Lee Ribs said in his defense that Fernández had called him “black.”. However, the Latino assures that he was thinking about his affairs when out of nowhere a barrage of blows hit him that took him to the hospital.

The morning the attack occurred, Fernández remembers that he managed to get out of the subway after the brutal beating and walk down the street for a few meters until he fainted. Already in the hospital, doctors detected four bone fractures and one internal bleeding.

The aggression that Fernández suffered it was just one of four that happened to Latino victims that same month. The other victims are Eduardo Treviño, Nelti Medrano and Andrea Puerta, whose beating was recorded by security cameras.

Joshua King was arrested for them, a 25-year-old African American, who faces three criminal charges of aggravated assault and three other minor charges of battery.
