Doha: The restoration work of 25 dhow boats has been completed by Qatar Tourism under the dhow refurbishment project. The programme was launched to preserve Qatari heritage and enhance Qatar Tourism. Each boat was upgraded to ensure maximum comfort and safety.

“Elevating the tourism experience at Doha Corniche is our priority, especially as we aspire to achieve Service Excellence at all touchpoints of the visitor’s journey. We are pleased to see great progress in this project, where we have already achieved more than 60% of the targeted work. This was made possible by the fruitful collaboration with our various partners and the cooperation of the boat’s owners.” said Mohammad Al Ansari, Director of Tourism Licensing at Qatar Tourism.

40 licensed dhows on the Corniche will be restored and upgraded in the first phase of the programme. 62% of Phase 1 has been completed so far. In the second phase, marinas and jetties will be modernized, along with waiting rooms and ticket offices, to enhance the boarding experience.

A comprehensive training and certification program will be provided during the third and final phase. This will be provided for the crews of the dhows, as well as for the staff who oversee the daily maintenance of the marinas and kiosks.
