Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV have been postponed

Blizzard Entertainment had to make a difficult decision and has postponed the upcoming blockbuster games “Overwatch 2” and “Diablo IV”. However, there is no new publication period.

This year, Blizzard Entertainment was a mess. After the serious allegations of sexual harassment, bullying and the apparently connected suicide of an employee, the company will in future also have to justify itself in court. Among other things, the State of California is investigating internal machinations within the company.

But business was anything but smooth recently. After “Warcraft III Reforged”, an in-house new edition, was harshly criticized by gamers and critics, “Diablo II Resurrected” was not completely convincing in the end. Above all, connection problems put the players in a bad mood.

Postponed indefinitely

Now those responsible also have their upcoming blockbusters “Diablo IV” and “Overwatch 2” postponed. Both games did not have a public release date and should be released “sometime after 2021” for the consoles and the PC. However, the appearance window had already been defined internally, which one can obviously no longer adhere to.

Blizzard also made a detailed statement about the postponements at the current financial conference:

“As we worked with new leadership at Blizzard and the brands themselves, especially in key creative roles, it became apparent that some of the Blizzard content planned for the next year would benefit from additional development time to to reach their full potential.

While we continue to plan to deliver a significant amount of Blizzard content over the next year, we are now planning a later release for Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV than we originally envisioned.

These are two of the most anticipated titles in the industry and our teams have taken great strides towards completion over the past few quarters. But we believe that the teams having some extra time to complete production and grow their creative resources to support the titles after they are released will ensure that these releases will bring joy to their communities for years to come.

These decisions will reduce the financial upswing that we expected to see next year. But we are sure that this is the right course for our people, our players and the long-term success of our brands. “

Accordingly, one can assume that both “Overwatch 2” and “Diablo IV” will not come onto the market until 2023 at the earliest. As soon as new details are revealed in this regard, we will bring you up to date.
