Mowasalat and Dukhan Bank to develop organic waste converter for Karwa City

Doha: Dukhan Bank, in collaboration with Mowasalat (Karwa), is all set to turn food waste into compost and organic fertilizer using an organic waste converter. Through this partnership, Mowasalat (Karwa) will expand on the project that they started in January 2021.

By repurposing waste that would have been sent to landfills, the sustainability initiative tries to reduce the city’s ecological footprint. By counteracting the production of methane gas at conventional waste disposal sites, this solution reduces the volume of carbon dioxide emissions. Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks to move toward a green economy, aligns well with the initiative.

“We are extremely pleased to join hands with Mowasalat in moving forward to develop a state-of-the-art organic waste converter that will not only benefit the immediate community but our nation as a whole. The patented BiobiN System has a proven track record in reducing greenhouse gas emissions while it redirects ‘waste’ to agriculture through useful compost products. Once developed, this sustainability initiative will serve Karwa City for years to come. This will contribute towards our country’s national vision of promoting environmentally friendly practices that reduce our carbon footprint,” The Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Dukhan Bank, Talal Ahmed Al Khaja, commented on the initiative.

Through the initiative, the Karwa City Oasis Project is directly supported where there is a walking and jogging track, more community spaces, and vegetable and herb gardens within the Mowasalat (Karwa) driver compound

“Over the past years, we have developed a CSR strategy that is not driven as a programme but as an integral part of our daily activities. We seek to bring together environmental and human friendliness at our workplace and beyond, and we commit ourselves to the responsibility that comes along with it. We introduced electric vehicles to reduce harmful fumes, and cut back and recycle our waste. It is great to see that we can partner up with a like-minded company on green projects like the BiobiN initiative to minimise our eco-impact and add our share to a liveable future in Qatar,” said CAO at Mowasalat (Karwa), Ahmed Al Muftah.
