Insomniac Games: Marvel partnership was a “turning point”
Insomniac Games has released two Marvel games so far. The next two superhero games are already in development. Studio boss Ted Price described the cooperation with Marvel as a “turning point”.
Insomniacs studio boss Ted Price spoke at the developer conference Develop: Brighton not just about that Avoiding crunch. Previously, the takeover by Sony Interactive Entertainment and the collaboration with Marvel were discussed.
Since August 2019 the developer of “Marvel’s Spider-Man” and the “Ratchet & Clank” series belongs to the PlayStation family. Price describes this step as “the greatest moment in our history”. This resulted in numerous advantages, such as the cooperation with the other Sony studios.
The CEO described the partnership with Marvel Entertainment as a “turning point”. No wonder, after all, the superhero adventure “Marvel’s Spider-Man” sold over 20 million times making it the most successful PS4 game. The less extensive standalone expansion “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales” has already found over 6.5 million buyers.
The use of licensed intellectual property was actually never something that the studio managers thought about. Meanwhile with “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” and “Marvel’s Wolverine“Two more superhero titles in development. The latter game was able to cause a surprise at the large PlayStation showcase. The teaser trailer is currently attracting great interest in the gaming community with 3.7 million views.
Development team as diverse as the audience
Additionally, Price commented on the diversity of the game industry today: “Today games are interesting for every culture, race and gender, which is amazing. We need teams that are as diverse as our audience. “
At Insomniac, care is taken to ensure that different personalities are available for each application phase. The committee is also made up of a wide variety of people. In addition, a university degree is no longer a mandatory requirement. Should an applicant not be able to show this, sound experience can serve as a “valid substitute”.
