Rondo’s departure from the Lakers to the Cavaliers is not a surprise and makes sense

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking for solutions to the poor performance they have shown throughout the 2021-22 NBA season, which is why the announcement of the change of Rajon Rondo to the Cleveland Cavaliers was not seen as a surprise.

Since the start of the season, Rondo has played in 18 meetings with the Californians, always in a supporting role and averaging 16 minutes per game. His production has been rather discreet, with 3.1 points and 3.7 assists in each game.

Unlike the 2019-20 season when Rondo assumed a vital role in the team’s rotation, currently there are several names that are above him, making it impossible for him to have a notable impact with the organization, as is the case of Russell Westbrook , Malik Monk and LeBron James himself.

There are other more important shortcomings in the Lakers than the construction of the game. They don’t have reliable defensive interiors and production is lacking behind the three-point line. So it makes perfect sense that Rondo was one of the players to change with a view to solving these needs.
