Returnal: Exploit enables memory function
“Returnal” is a game whose cycles should be played through in one go. With the latest patch, these can at least be paused. And an exploit goes a few steps further.
“Returnal” recently got a big update, with which the “Interrupt cycle” function was introduced. It gives the players the opportunity to pause their game and later continue where they were last in the cycle.
This means that players can exit the game and turn off their console completely without losing their progress during a session, which was not possible before the latest update was released.
As he explained, “When you break the cycle, Returnal simply creates a one-time save point. As soon as you resume the game, the save point will be deleted and can no longer be used. “
Players discover memory exploit
Apparently, the developer’s plan did not work out. Because some players have found a way to save the memory point for repeated use. These include the game designer Joseph Yaden, who speaks of a “Returnal Suspend Cycle” exploit in a tweet (embedded below).
After the game was interrupted by Yaden, he uploaded the game to the PlayStation cloud servers. After the virtual death, he could download the saved game from the cloud and continue the game from the point at which it was interrupted. The exploit was not tested extensively, but it was Kotaku reports of successful attempts.
More news about Returnal:
After all: The function cannot be used during boss fights, cutscenes, ego scenes or in an intense fight. Housemarque once stated that the Interrupt feature was developed to “keep the roguelike spirit and high stakes commitment intact while providing a certain quality of life for players who want to experience Returnal at shorter intervals”.
I’ve gotta say – this method is singlehandedly getting me through Returnal. I know people are mad that I’m not playing it “the right” way, but I don’t have time to continuously die and restart over and over. I’m now enjoying it because of this and I think that’s a positive thing. https://t.co/VnKumA7dIh
