In a statement, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Democrat of New York, praised the Biden administration’s decision to reopen the borders of Canada and Mexico and welcoming those considered “non-essential travelers,” such as relatives seeking to visit family or those seeking to go shopping in the United States.
“Ultimately, the New York-Canada border will once again be open to vaccinated travelers from both nations,” said Ms Gillibrand.
He added that the loss of Canadian business cost the US economy $ 1.5 billion each month:
“This reopening will be good news for countless businesses, medical providers, families and loved ones who depend on travel across the northern border,” he concluded.
The travel restrictions, implemented in March 2020 when the coronavirus spread throughout the United States, have not applied to commercial traffic, nor to returning American citizens or students.
