GTA Trilogy – Defintive Edition: Despite performance mode, no stable 60FPS on the PS5
In addition to this week’s release, the first performance checks for “GTA Trilogy – The Definitive Edition” are now available. As these make clear, unfortunately no stable 60FPS are achieved in performance mode on the PS5.
This week, Take-Two Interactive and the developers at Rockstar Games released the remaster collection called “GTA Trilogy – The Definitive Edition” for consoles and PC.
It contains technically and playfully revised versions of the three open world classics “GTA 3”, “GTA: Vice City” and “GTA: San Andreas”. In addition to the release, the first performance checks are now available, which make it clear that the trees do not technically grow into the sky even in the remastered versions. For example, none of the three classics in performance mode on the PlayStation 5 can be displayed in stable 60 frames per second.
Frame rates keep falling
The drops in the frame rate are most noticeable in the new edition of “GTA 3”, which runs at 60 frames per second as far as possible, but can drop to the mid 30s in hectic moments. “GTA: Vice City” is also not immune to corresponding FPS drops. “GTA: San Andreas” cuts the best figure in the performance mode on the PS5, where the frame rate rarely falls below 60FPS.

Even if the smaller drops in the frame rate only have a minimal effect on the gameplay, purists criticize the fact that Rockstar Games did not succeed in implementing the popular classics with a stable 60FPS for the new generation of consoles. The “GTA Trilogy – The Definitive Edition” is available for the PC, the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 5, the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X / S.
