The US publishing giant Activision Blizzard was also one of the companies that recently presented its annual report for the quarter ended September 30, 2021.

As the annual report shows, the Californian publisher was able to exceed the targeted sales target of 1.97 billion US dollars and generated sales of 2.07 billion US dollars between July 1 and September 30, 2021. With a look at the number of active users in the in-house games, the company pointed out that the number stagnated in the past quarter and remains at 26 million active users.

Microtransactions drive sales

Digital content such as microtransactions and loot boxes played a large part in the company’s success in the past quarter. These generated sales of $ 1.2 billion between July 1 and September 30, 2021. A development that experts attribute primarily to the digital content of titles such as the battle royal shooter “Call of Duty: Warzone” or last year’s offshoot “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War”.

On the subject: Blizzard: Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV have been postponed

But “Call of Duty: Mobile”, which broke the limit of 500 million downloads in May of this year, should also have played its part in the success. The next potential sales drivers are coming titles like the shooter “Call of Duty: Vanguard”, which will be released this week.

Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV, the next big titles from Blizzard Entertainment, however, have been postponed indefinitely.
